This year, the citizens may present ideas and vote on them to determine how the city will spend 240 000 € to improve comfort and community in Oulu.
Transforming Oulu’s Less Used Underground Tunnels for Social Growth
Existing Infrastructure: The tunnels already have solid ventilation, flooring, and safety systems, reducing renovation costs.
Cost-Efficient Enhancements: Focus on lighting, modular seating, and decorative improvements to maximize impact within the €240,000 budget.
Improved Mental Well-being: Movement and bright, open spaces combat depression and isolation. Oulu will not be a all around time dark city. Winter market, winter theme events, and free movement will significantly improve citizens' wellbeing.
Increased Revenue: Leasing retail and cafe spaces will generate far more income than parking fees.
Secondary impacts: Enhance quality of life and vibrant city will increase productivity, attracts more talent and capital, may reduce healthcare costs and improves city's reputation.
